Sleeping with the Horses: Living Quarters in a Horse Trailer

If you own horses and travel often to show them off at horse shows and competitions, then you are well aware of how hard it can be to find accommodations for yourself while on the road. Paying for a hotel room overnight can get to be very expensive. That’s why it may be a good idea to invest in a horse trailer that is big enough to include living quarters for you to stay in. This is a great investment that will actually save you tons of money in the long run.

Most trailers whether they are gooseneck or bumper pull; have some type of living quarters in them. The size of your living quarters will vary between these two types of trailers. There are a number of different items you will need to have in your horse trailer living quarters. The most obvious one, of course, is a bed. There really isn’t a limit on the size of the bed you have in the trailer, other than the one imposed on you by the space available in the trailer. Depending on the size of the trailer, you could purchase a bed that will sleep four or more if you needed to. The type of mattress you get for your bed is strictly up to your own personal comfort as well as the budget you have available to use. Make sure you get a bed that is comfortable for you, because after a long day of driving, your back will appreciate the rest!

Another essential element that will be needed to complete your horse trailer living quarters will be a shower/bathroom. The space that will contain your shower room will more than likely be quite a tight squeeze, so keep that in mind.

You’ll also need some type of functional kitchen area so that you can cook your meals while you’re on the road. Cooking your own meals is a great way to save on money because you won’t be buying fast food for every meal. Cooking your own food is healthier also. Of course, there are a few essential items that you’ll need to make your kitchen complete. You’ll need a microwave, a fridge, and a stove, at least.

Don’t forget that horses need space as well! If you want to have spacious living quarters, you’re going to have to find a much bigger trailer to accommodate your needs along with the horse’s needs. You will also need to make sure there is room for all the gear and equipment your horse needs, so don’t neglect to leave some storage space for all the things you’ll need to take on the road with you.

If you are on a really tight budget, you might want to shop around a lot before deciding on a trailer. If you want big comfort, you should expect to pay big as well. It’s best to do some research and see exactly what type of trailer you need and then try to find one similar for sale at a reasonable price.

Remember that the number one priority is the horse’s comfort and safety. Make sure you think of this before you think of your own luxury. Taking care of your horses is essential to your success. After all, if showing horses is how you make your living, doesn’t your horse deserve to be spoiled?
